So who are we?

A family at work.
We are a family who, although widely spread over the
world, have a pride in our family history. The Burn's of yesteryear came
from the west country. In the 19th century the family members had a diverse
range of professions. My great-great grandfather, Frederick Burn of Plymouth
was a labourer in the local naval dockyard whilst later his children had occupations such as dressmaker,
grocer's assistant and shipwright. My great-grandfather, Thomas N. Burn, was
for a time the caretaker on the de-commissioned HMS Thunderer and then other
battleships which were waiting to be scrapped. This meant he and his family
lived a life afloat on Plymouth Sound for a number of years.
The next two generations saw careers in the Salvation Army,
the probation service, printing and local government as well as those taking
the 'Kings shilling' and serving in the armed forces, both full time and on
a territorial basis.
And what about my generation? Well the 'youngsters' of
the clan in the early 21st century can be seen in the fields of computer
programming, child care and local government as well as in the
automotive trade amongst other things. You will find us working for a wide
range of organisations. One of us works in America for a corporate giant
whilst another of us works for a very famous family in Great Britain. But
no matter what our station is in life we all share in each others triumphs
and achievements.
A family at play.
As well as working hard
we like to play hard. Our hobbies are as diverse as our jobs. There are
those of us who like music making in brass bands and singing but there are
others who spend our time sub-aqua diving or soldiering in the Army
Cadet Force.
